Learner Support
The Learner Services team are here to help you with all your financial matters. Depending on your personal circumstances you may be eligible for financial support funds so we want to make sure you have all the help you need to receive these.  The available schemes are:

16-19 Bursary (provided by the Government)
Care to Learn Scheme (provided by the Government)
Army Further Education Bursary (provided by the Ministry of Defence)

Guaranteed bursary support for vulnerable young people
Young people who are classed by the Education Funding Agency as vulnerable young people are eligible for a guaranteed bursary to support them on their main programme of study worth up to £1,200. This may be paid in the form of travel support, meal vouchers, kit and equipment and educational visits. Learners have to meet residency criteria and be on and eligible course (e.g. Not university, paid apprenticeships or on a temporary license). The learners also have to be aged between 16-18 years on 31 August 2016 and provide evidence that they are either in local authority care or care leavers or be in receipt of income support in their own name, or in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance or both Employment Support Allowance and Personal Independence Payments. NB: As it is a bursary relating to participation in college, deductions are made for low attendance. If the course is less than 30 weeks duration, a pro rata bursary award can be made.

16-19 Discretionary Learner Support Fund
Eligible learners can get help with the costs of kit and equipment, travel, meals and trips and travel. We will need to carry out an assessment of your household income to confirm if you are eligible. The scheme has been really helpful to hundreds of learners at the Institute, so if you’d like to find out more call the finance team on (01472) 311222 ext: 400 or 434 or email bursary@grimsby.ac.uk
